Hello Icons, Happy Utamaduni Day.
In the spirit of celebrating our broad cultures and diversity, here in Kenya, I decided to talk a little about the importance of ensuring diversity and inclusivity in our work, organizations, and creations. Since we all come from different backgrounds and hold different practices and beliefs, It is important that we learn to be accomodating to everyone as long as they are not in violation of our space, rights, or freedoms.
Also, the world is moving at a very fast pace both positively and negatively e.g some things that were deemed unacceptable then, have now found light in the front pages and we have no option but to move with the times; especially in the corporate world.
Even as creatives, we ought to consider the different recipient audiences and ensure that we are inclusive when putting out our work lest we be called out for our different biases and impact our work negatively.
I would love to know what some of your opinions are regarding diversity and inclusivity.
What does diversity mean to you?
Have you practiced inclusivity in your productions or organization?
What are some of the negative impacts of being exclusive?
What challenges have you faced while promoting inclusivity?
How do you balance being inclusive while still holding true to your beliefs?
Also, feel free to add to the discussion besides the above-mentioned questions.
I believe diversity is paramount to business growth and also problem solving in any field. Different ideas and experiences bring about different perspectives to better solve problems, bring about dialogue and generate creative solutions to problems.
Inclusivity and exclusivity are two sides of the same coin. It is either a pro or con depending on the field you're in. For example, in national government, being inclusive might mean bringing peace and growth within it's borders while internationally being exclusive to avoid exploitation of it's resources by foreigners.
